FAQ

The information below is given to provide you with answers to commonly asked questions. If you have a specific question then please email me and I will call you back on receipt of your enquiry.

Q. Which airlines fly direct to Scotland from North America?

A. Continental has a daily service from Newark to both Glasgow and Edinburgh (summer only). US Airways fly from Philadelphia to Glasgow (summer only) and Delta fly from Atlanta to Edinburgh. Low cost carriers Fly Globespan and Zoom have flights into Glasgow from a number of cities in the US and Canada.

Q. What is the best time of year to travel to Scotland?

A. I am often asked this difficult question! It is generally warmer and drier between the months of April to October and there are long daylight hours in the summer months. It can rain at any time of the year so we suggest you should bring appropriate clothing for all weathers! My luxury vehicle has large umbrellas on board for unforeseen showers. Average summer temperatures are between 60-70 degrees.

Q. What is the minimum number of people for a customised trip?

A. I often organise tours for just two people and this makes for a very exclusive tour. A group of four works well and I can organise larger groups if you have a specific request.

Q. What is the ideal length of trip?

A. A tour of between 7-10 days will allow you to see most of the country without changing hotels too often. I am happy to arrange a shorter trip if you are time conscious.

Q. Are there any local customs I should know about?

A. Scotland now has a strict NO SMOKING policy in all public buildings. This means no smoking in hotels and restaurants.

Q. Can I organise my own flights?

A. Yes. The nature of the internet combined with frequent flyer loyalty programs means that you can arrange the best deal to suit your needs. I will then pick you up at the airport and take care of everything while you are in Scotland.

Q. Can I use U.S. Dollars to make purchases while in Scotland?

A. No, you should use Pounds Sterling to make purchases. Your concierge driver will facilitate changing of money.

Q. We would like to rent a car and drive ourselves on a tour. Can you arrange this?

A. Sorry, I don’t offer car rental. I encourage clients to take our luxury vehicle and concierge driver. There are many benefits to you, most obviously not having to worry about driving on the opposite side of narrow roads.

Q. How can I pay for the trip?

A. I accept three forms of payment. You can pay by check, by VISA/Mastercard or by direct bank transfer.

Q. Can I access the internet while on tour with Scotland Calling?

A. Many of the hotels have internet access which you can use and your concierge driver also has a laptop with mobile internet connection in an emergency.

Q. Should I take out insurance for the trip?

A. I recommend that all clients take insurance for their vacation to Scotland. I don’t arrange this but can offer recommendations.
